Central Greece, Greece

The Central Greece region of Greece is located in the central part of the country, and it is a diverse wine region with varying climates and soil types. The two main sub-regions in Central Greece are Thessaly and Attica, which are both known for their high-quality wines.

Thessaly is located in the central part of Greece, and it is known for its continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. The region produces a range of red and white wines, with Xinomavro being the most widely planted red grape variety, and Roditis and Malagousia being the most common white grape varieties. The wines of Thessaly are typically full-bodied and complex, with intense aromas of dark fruit, spices, and herbs.

Attica is located in the southeastern part of Central Greece, and it is known for its mild Mediterranean climate. The region produces a variety of wines, with Savatiano being the most widely planted white grape variety. The wines of Attica are often crisp and refreshing, with citrus and mineral notes.

In addition to the traditional grape varieties, Central Greece is also experimenting with international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The region is also known for producing a unique fortified wine called Retsina, which is flavored with resin from pine trees.
